Some point and shoots have both real and the focal length equivalent to 35 mm printed on the front of the lens. From my experience, equivalent to 35 mm in the majority of points and a frame rate is somewhere around 15 mm. This means that the 28-112mm lens on a film camera, like a 'point-do-and-shoot 2x zoom all the way up to a point and shoot zoom 7.5x.
The optical zoom factor is greater than the focal length by the shortest divided. So 112/28 = 4-fold zoom.
